There are currently eighty bills pending in Congress to restrict access to intimate personal data in cyberspace. Some companies provide research services strictly for background screenings for employment purposes. Some companies also provide research services for probes on corporate clients involved in buyouts or mergers. These companies use searches such as surname scans and credit headers. Surname scans use voter registrations, motor vehicle registrations, and property listings. Credit headers are used to find occupational information through credit agencies. A reverse directory can also be used to cross check phone numbers and addresses. There are also information wholesalers who sell these types of personal information to anyone who is willing to pay. The information wholesalers will also sell information such as banking information, criminal records, medical records, and even who is living at your properties. The fourth and fifth amendments to the Constitution give the right to privacy, but cyberspace is beyond the governments control at this point. People who use the Internet must be aware of both the positive and negative aspects. Internet users need to make sure there is a balance kept between interpersonal relationships and long distance relationships. Long distance relationships can be beneficial in broadening a person's view of life, but lack in other areas. Interpersonal relationships such as those with friends and family are more solid and self-fulfilling. When you are in a pinch and need a last minute babysitter or someone to do a favor, a friend from the Internet will not be as helpful as a friend or family member. People should also try to refrain from providing personal information over the Internet.
