Paper: A Look at Great Rock Legends of All Times

Many Musicians have found great success through pop music but none more than the beatles. With their ungroomed hair and stylish suits they created an aura that no young girl could resist. Media followed them like no other band before. Being a musician who lives for music | have always wondered how this band started and came to be legendary. Greatly influenced by rock legend Elvis Presley, John Lennon started his first band called the Quarrymen in 1956 at the age of sixteen (Schaffner 12). On July 6, 1957 John Lennons bandmate, lvan Vaughan, invited his friend Paul to the St. Peter's Church garden in Woolton, Liverpool where the Quarrymen would be playing. Paul actually went, not to hear the band perform, but rather because Ivan had convinced him that the church picnic would be a great place to pick up girls (Brown and Gaines 21). Later that afternoon, as the boys were hanging out together, Paul was officially introduced to John. Paul borrowed a guitar from one of the boys and began to show off a bit. John was genuinely impressed with Paul, not only because he could play so well but because he could tune a guitar, a feat that the others had not yet mastered. A few days later while riding his bicycle, Paul ran into Pete Shotton, one of the Quarrymen. Pete told Paul that they had talked it over and John wanted Paul to join the band. After a moment's contemplation, Paul replied "Oh, all right" (Goldman 72). Paul lived near a fourteen year old kid named George Harrison. He discovered that George knew dozens more chords than he and John put together (Giuliano 28). George could also pick out actual solos instead of merely strumming (Goldman 75).
